Barmston Café
Tucked away in the heart of Hull’s industrial quarter, Barmston Café is the kind of place that doesn’t mess about. No frills, no fuss-just proper, home-cooked food served with a smile. A classic greasy spoon in the best way, this independent café knows exactly what its customers want: a hearty breakfast, good value, and a warm welcome.
Mimi Khan, owner of Barmston Cafe
Opened in 2019 by Mimi Khan, Barmston Café has become a staple for Hull’s working community-a place where graft meets grub. Walk through the door, and you know straight away this place is built for the workers. There’s a steady flow of builders, factory workers, and locals who’ve made Barmston their go-to. The staff are friendly, the service is quick, and the atmosphere is pure community nonsense, just good vibes and great food.
And when it comes to the food? They don’t cut corners. The full English is exactly how it should be—big portions, quality ingredients, cooked properly. The sausages come from a proper butcher, the eggs are always bang on
““We don’t put a bad-looking egg out, ever; we would rather throw it in the bin.”
Value for money? Absolutely. While other spots charge over the odds for a fry-up, Barmston keeps it real. For £9.20 gets you the mega breakfast—three bacon, three sausage, two eggs, beans, tomatoes, black pudding, mushrooms, two slices of toast and a free tea or coffee.
“We opened the café to serve the working community of Bankside, and now we get people from all over the region after we got voted the best brekkie in town.”
Mimi and the team
Open Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 2 PM, the café runs like clockwork, with a small but hardworking team of three, expanding to four when things get busy. And for those who can’t step away from work? They’ll bring the breakfast to you, delivering it to factories within a three-mile radius.
Barmston Café isn’t trying to be anything it’s not. It’s just good food, done properly, served by people who care. And that’s exactly why it’s one of Hull’s finest independents.
