KINGS REVIEW

BY LEANNE O’BRIEN

Hull’s newest music venue, bar and creative space, Kings, formerly King Billy pub. My friends and I booked a table on a Saturday and were given a prime spot right next to the DJ booth. I love that they had sets from local DJs and the vibe was fantastic.

The walls are decorated with quirky street style artwork from the awesome local artist behind Friends on Every Street and I can’t post about the art at Kings without mentioning the stunning geisha mural on the side of the building by Dan Kitchener which has rightly received a lot of attention. It’s a good landmark for Kings and a great addition to Hull’s ever growing street art scene.

The drinks were flowing with a wide variety of beers, ciders and spirits as well as a few select cocktails. I tried their espresso martini (of course!) and my fave of their cocktails; the Violet Fizz, a mix of Bombay Sapphire, violet gin, cherry liquor, prosecco and lemon.

Of course I couldn’t have the full Kings experience without also having a Stretch pizza, who took over the kitchen for the opening weekend, providing their fantastic and authentic Neapolitan pizzas - you may remember them from my previous review. I had the pecorino - san marzano tomatoes, pesto, ricotta and sundried tomatoes. Fantastic toppings and the softest, chewy pizza crust!

All in all, a great night - drinks, food and tunes! Kings is a fab addition to the regeneration of the market place area and I can’t wait to see it evolve. Let’s keep the hype.
