DOPE DOUGH REVIEW
BY LEANNE O’BRIEN
People love pizza - there’s science backing the addiction and I wouldn’t be a true foodie if I wasn’t a self confessed pizza addict. There are many places I like to go for pizza in Hull, but my all time favourite proper cheat meal pizza has to be Dope Dough.
Last time I reviewed these guys, there had been a few changes to the menu meaning our favourite ‘The Phat Pig’ was no longer available but instead had been replaced by what is now our new favourite, simply ‘The Pig’. This is a delicious meat feast type pizza loaded with pork sausage, bacon and pepperoni. As it was our last blow out meal before we started training again, we also got a few sides to try as we’ve never had any of them before.
We ordered the monster 20” pizza which I can’t even begin to describe how huge these are! Joss and I always manage to finish one between us though as we are hardcore foodies. The toppings are just amazing - perfectly seasoned sausage, crispy bacon (no stringy fat here!) and the most deliciously spiced pepperoni. I said in my last review, I preferred the old pizza sauce, however I take it all back! I LOVED it this time round, it was generously spread on the base and tangy! I’m actually fond of their garlic crust dipper now too as I was a bit let down the dope sauce wasn’t the standard dip that came with it at first but you know what? Change can be good!
We also ordered a garlic butter dip for good measure. We would have finished it as we usually do, but with the addition of the sides, I must admit, this is the only pizza to have ever defeated us! This brings us to the sides themselves; we chose the cheese and bacon dough balls and the BBQ brisket cheese fries...OMG! Best sides ever! The dough balls are also huge and STUFFED to the brim with melted mozzarella and bacon pieces. The fries were also delicious and loaded with tender flavoursome brisket.
Absolutely spot on, couldn’t fault it at all.
