STRETCH REVIEW

BY LEANNE O’BRIEN

Who doesn’t love a good quality pizza? It’s such simple pleasures that keep up our spirits, so if you have pizza on the brain, why not consider Hull’s newest pizza place, Stretch. Stretch specialise in Neapolitan style pizzas, a style of pizza prepared only with fresh, simple ingredients comprising of a basic dough, raw tomatoes, fresh mozzarella cheese, fresh basil and olive oil.

The Stretch team are by their own admission, ‘starting small and aiming big’ and are currently running competitions, taking event bookings and exploring pop-up venues. At the weekend, we were lucky enough to be offered a preview of what is on offer and we were not disappointed. What first catches your eye, is the super cute message on top of the boxes saying: ‘Hope you love my daddy’s pizza’, with a hand drawn picture by Phoebe age 3.

We were given two traditional Neapolitan pizzas to try, the Margherita and Marinara as we were informed these are the basis of any great Neapolitan pizza joint. Neapolitan pizzas are by nature fairly small (between 10-12 inches), so these were perfectly sized for a personal pizza. Due to there being more sauce than cheese, Neapolitan pizza is served as a whole rather than by the slice. We’re glad we researched this to understand what makes Neapolitan pizza so unique.

We really enjoyed the pizzas. The style and taste can be described as rustic and traditional. Each ingredient was carefully considered, from the fresh, tart tomato base to the creamy discs of mozzarella and the dough had a wonderfully pillowy, soft and chewy crust. You’d be forgiven for thinking you were in a pizzeria in Naples.

What is evident is the passion the team have for the Neapolitan style, which has made for simple yet delicious pizza.

So in response to Phoebe; yes, we did love your daddy’s pizza! We recommend you keep an eye out for Stretch pizza popping up or coming soon to an event near you.
